Engine & Performance
While we’re on the subject of craftsmanship, you’ll notice an exclusive plaque with the signature of the craftsman who hand assembled your GT-R’s engine. The hand-formed titanium exhaust helps channel the roar from engine and its IHI Integrated Turbocharger. Also unique to the GT-R is Nissan’s Premium Midship Platform which, by placing the engine further back in the chassis for better handling, results in the world’s first independent rear transaxle on an AWD vehicle. Transfer all that power to the pavement with a dual-clutch transmission system that can change gears in just 0.15 seconds while in R-Mode.
And if all that power doesn’t get you revved up, lets talk control. The 2018 Nissan GT-R utilizes an Advanced AWD system in conjunction with VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control); rather than a traditional 50/50 torque split between the front and the rear axles, 100% of the torque is allotted to the rear wheels, with the VDC electronically monitoring performance and sending up to 50% of the torque back to the front axle. The feel and response of a rear-wheel drive car, with the safety and control found in an all-wheel drive vehicle.
All that speed and control is only good if you enjoy the ride, and that’s why the GT-R has a Blistein® DampTronic® driver-adjustable shock absorber system for all the different driving conditions you may encounter. It’ll be tempting to utilize all of the GT-R’s dynamic power, which is why its been outfitted with 6-piston front, and 4-piston rear, calipers, machine cut from monoblock aluminum. And if you didn’t get enough acronyms earlier, you’ll be getting from point A to point B on 20” forged aluminum RAYS® wheels in a premium near black finish, with Dunlop® SP Sport Maxx® GT 600 DSST CTT high-performance run-flat tires.
They say it’s what’s on the inside that counts — well start counting all of the features inside the GT-R. Multiple, easy access screens allow for feedback on all aspects of the GT-R’s premier performance. NissanConnect with Navigation powers an 8” colour touchscreen that, when used with Apple CarPlay, allows access to all of your music, and certain apps. NissanConnect also offers an app for compatible smartphones that offers digital alerts and remote access features. Paired with the Nissan Intelligent Key, which lets you tap a button on the door handle to unlock the car, all while your keys hang out in your pocket or purse. And because driving a car like the GT-R is meant to be fun, hop in and go at the push of a button with the standard Push Button Ignition feature.
Sure, it’s what’s on the inside that counts. But that doesn’t mean the GT-R can’t look good too. And not only do the sharp lines of the GT-R, and it’s signature taillights, make for a stunning looking ride, it’s been engineered to make for a safe, smooth, aerodynamic ride as well. A Carbon Aluminum Die-cast Steel body with composite panels underneath, mixed with a carbon-fibre rear diffuser and dry carbon-fibre rear spoiler, means you don’t so much work with the air around you but rather slice right through it.
But of course, the only way to really know what an amazing experience driving the 2018 Nissan GT-R is, you’ll have to check out it out at Kelowna Nissan, your one stop destination for all the best Nissan has to offer.
